Overview
The Yakovlev Yak-52 is a Soviet primary trainer aircraft which first flew in 1976. It is still being produced in Romania by Aerostar, which gained manufacturing rights under agreement within the now defunct COMECON socialist trade organisation.
The Yak-52 was designed originally as an aerobatic trainer for students in the Soviet DOSAAF training organisation, which trained both civilian sport pilots and military pilots. Since the early 1990s and the fall of the Soviet Union, many Yak 52s have been exported to the west. Of the approximately 1,800 produced to date, most now fly in the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia and other western countries.

Great aircraft to fly.
By: Rob on 17 November 2023This is a top little model to fly. It's very twitchy due to the size of the elevators and ailerons. But, dial in about 50% expo and 80% rates and it settles down and it will surprise you. It's quick on landing so is best in a headwind. Flys like a warbird so you need to know its stall point, but it will handle aerobatics with ease. Can even snap roll after takeoff if you're keen. don't be put off by it's goofy looks. It's no trainer and will best suit someone with warbird time. Edges and Extra's are far easier to fly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4mZt7SVNBA
