The Most Popular Model Plane Kits from Aviation History
Our collection of high-quality model plane kits includes many civilian and military models that have left their mark on aviation history, with some still operating today. You will find everything from airshow and trainer planes to interceptors and bombers. So take your time to browse our range of model aircraft and find the one you like the most.
Civilian Model Planes
You can explore our range of civilian model planes, perfect for aviation lovers and model builders of all skill levels. Our collection features iconic planes with detailed designs, providing you with hours and days of an engaging building experience. Naturally, you can and should display your model planes once they are done to show off your skills.
One standout civilian model is the Airbus A380, known as the Giant of the Skies. Our 1:288 scale Airbus A380 model kit includes 47 parts and offers a detailed and easy assembly experience, making it perfect for both beginners and seasoned modellers. With its impressive wingspan and textured surfaces, this model beautifully captures the iconic design of the world's largest passenger aircraft, making it a must-have for any aviation collector.
Another model you may like is the civilian Spitfire MK XIV, which transitioned from its wartime role to become a highly distinctive aircraft in the civilian aviation scene. With its graceful, clean lines and powerful performance, the Spitfire XIV became a popular choice for airshows and air race competitions worldwide, reaffirming the legacy of this legendary aircraft.
For a less well-known aircraft, check out the Czechoslovakian Zlin Z-42M, a single-engine, two-seat trainer aircraft. This is one of the more interesting models, as it was designed in Eastern Europe, but outside of the USSR, and originates from a country that no longer exists. It was first flown in 1967 and certified in 1970, so this model plane kit offers a great opportunity to recreate a piece of little-known aviation history.
Our civilian aircraft kits offer detailed reproductions, making them ideal for both display and educational purposes, so browse until you find a model plane you love.
Military Model Planes
Beyond civilian aeroplanes, we have one of the largest collections of military model aeroplanes in Australia. You will find model plane kits of:
Reconnaissance and Transport Planes
Our collection includes detailed models like the German Fieseler Fi-156 Storch, renowned for its short takeoff and landing (STOL) capabilities and versatile roles during WWII, serving as a reconnaissance plane, air ambulance, and high-ranking officer transport. Another notable model is the enormous V-22 Osprey, a modern tilt-rotor aircraft that combines the vertical takeoff and landing abilities of a helicopter with the speed and range of a fixed-wing aircraft, used for supply and casualty evacuation by the US Marine Corps and Air Force. Both models offer a rich history and intricate design for enthusiasts and collectors.
Fighter Aircraft / Interceptors
If your interests lie more in historical and modern combat aircraft, we have a wide variety of model planes for you. For aviation history buffs, the best choices might be the Supermarine Spitfire MK.1A, a symbol of ‘The Few’ during the Battle of Britain, known for its speed and exceptional manoeuvrability, or its opponent, the Messerschmitt BF109 G-10, considered to be one of the best fighter planes until the Spitfire came along.
In case you are looking for rarer aircraft, we have the perfect fighter model for you - ICM’s I-15 model plane. The I-15, nicknamed Chato, was a single-engine fighter biplane first commissioned in 1933 in the USSR, although it was most prominently used by the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War. This model kit is sure to thrill any aircraft enthusiasts who prefer to stay away from the more famous aerial battles of the time.
Lovers of more modern model planes might enjoy building and painting the highly-detailed F/A-18 Hornet model, a versatile, multi-mission fighter/attack aircraft used extensively for air superiority, reconnaissance, and strike missions. However, we can’t provide such a wide range of model aeroplane kits in Australia without offering Australian aircraft, like this F-111C PIG model kit, first deployed by the Royal Australian Air Force in 1973.
Regardless of the specific model aeroplanes you choose to build, each offers a unique glimpse into the evolution of military aviation.
Bombers
Beyond fighters, we have many military bomber plane models. The Avro Lancaster B MK.I, born from the troubled Manchester, became the British RAF Bomber Command's mainstay during WWII and was well-renowned for its robustness and the ability to carry substantial bomb loads. From daring raids like the Dambusters Raid to postwar humanitarian missions, the Lancaster model plane is a true example of the progress of aviation.
Equally significant is the Boeing B-17G ‘Flying Fortress’, initially marred by setbacks but later emerging as a stalwart of U.S. bomber operations. Entering service in 1938, it earned its 'Flying Fortress' moniker due to its formidable defensive armament and rugged design. The B-17G variant symbolised U.S. air power in Europe, executing long-range bombing sorties with precision and resilience.
You can find these and many other bomber models in our collection.
Model Planes in Scales from 1:18 to 1:350
Regardless of whether you prefer civilian or military model planes, we have model plane kits in many scales and sizes. Our range goes all the way from enormous, hobby-grade 1:18 models, like the AV-8B Harrier model, with a length of 806mm and a wingspan of 514mm, to miniature 1:350 models, which are even suitable for children to practice building model aircraft.
